aims

Kado Projects (Charitable Incorporated Organisation since August 2017) came to be in response to the clear need for interesting, engaging and fun activities around the arts, particularly music and culture, to encourage communities in areas of rapid regeneration to come together and re-connect. Our aims are to work in partnership with organisations to offer workshops, exhibitions and experiences that interest local people, offer them something new and sign post them to similar projects that are of interest and available to them. We are predominantly interested in working with young people as services to this group have been seriously restricted in recent years leading to poorer long term outcomes, especially for minority groups and those living in poorer communities. There has been a marked increase in criminal behaviour within this demographic and a spike in violent crime such as stabbings and gang conflicts. We hope by providing free, inclusive and interesting opportunities we can offer an alternative. It is our hope to bring the community together, working across demographics to ease the impact of the rapidly changing areas we live in.

With ambitions to roll out projects across Greater London in the long run, our recent activities have been focused on Southwark, Lewisham and Lambeth.

goals

  • Foster social cohesion and cross community conversation by organising events that appeal across age, ability, ethnicity, gender and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Creating opportunities for the economically disadvantaged to participate in creative pursuits and provides alternatives to crime and gang culture.

  • Engaging activities for school aged children that support and enhance the existing curriculum beyond that which current core funding allows.

  • Building bridges between long-term residents that might feel threatened by rapid regeneration and more recently arrived, often young and creative people who could contribute to a rich, multicultural social environment

music production

In partnership with pioneering organisation CDR we deliver educational and interactive music production workshop series at secondary schools and youth centres in deprived areas of London. We teach young people the use of state-of-the art production softwares and compositional techniques, helping them to build a body of work that is their own and offering the opportunity to perform in public.

talks

We believe that great art speaks for itself, we also believe an understanding of its context and industry is crucial. As such we deliver talks and discussions with key individuals and local organisations to pass on an understanding of how to access creative industries. These talks also serve to encourage deeper discussions about the state of such industries and their products that are essential in order to drive culture forward.

exhibitions

We host and commission artists and provide budgets to exhibit their works in shape of sound and light installations, painting and other visual arts. We offer a platform that aims to attract new audiences and introduce the works of exciting, emerging talent.

crafts

We believe that arts and crafts are essential to bring people together, acquire skills and to enable self-expression. As such we organise series of inclusive workshops with partners such as 3rd Rail Print Space, INxSANIxTY, Creative Debuts and many more that offer anybody to discover new activities entirely free of financial restraints.
